Did not have tons of time or energy today for a long road ride so that meant a quickie out to Mt. Hope and back on Valley Chapel Road. There was a good bit of suffering riding into a headwind from the south, 25 degrees air and a few long climbs.
Interestingly our pastor spoke on suffering today (even on the bike) in the context of Romans 5:3-4."but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope" It is pretty cool when you can go to church and hear a great message that includes bikes - Bam!
This verse is very appropriate this time of year due to all of the above plus the loss of conditioning over the winter. I am thinking of having it printed on my top tube to remind me of suffering. Sometimes hope is all I have with some groups of riders....
The road was in good shape until the very top of the grade where it is shaded all of the time. I was pedaling gingerly over some compact ice, but it was only about 30 meters long.
Not much else to report except that California Creek is flowing nicely into Latah Creek at the intersection of Valley Chapel and Elder Roads. This must surely be a sign of early spring,,,,
The creek may not be flowing for long though due to an industrious and overachieving beaver in the area.
Here is the link to the recordings at Summit Ridge Christian Fellowship if you want to listen to the bikey/suffering message when it posts in a few days.
