Kid's Bike Safety Fair and Skills Clinic

Thanks to the awesome members of the Gonzaga Cycling Club, our first bike safety fair and skills clinic went off without a hitch.  The college students got a welcomed break from studying for finals and the kids who participated got some first rate instruction and practice.  Most of the kids were from the surrounding neighborhood and had heard about the event through Grant Elementary.

The only angst was among the customers of the florist across the street arriving and finding that we were actually using our entire parking lot and having to park on the street.

We had a lot of support and a respectable turnout for the event for the first year and have a few changes in mind to make it better next year.

The Gonzaga students running the event worked on safety rules, bike inspection and rules of the road.

They laid-out a really fun course in the parking lot to then let the kids practice what they had learned and build confidence on bike handling course
The students connected well with the kids and everyone had a good time - here is a select sample mugging for the camera

Next year we hope to team up with a couple of other organizations early in the process to make it bigger and better.  Thanks again GU Cycling Club!
